Reduce downtime, increase efficiency and ensure the safety of your facility with the BDI (Burst Disc Indicator) Alarm System. When an overpressure or vacuum condition causes a disc to rupture, the BDI immediately alerts the system operator.

The heart of the Burst Disc Indicator Alarm System is the BDI Alarm Strip. When a disc ruptures, it severs the electrically charged strip, breaking the circuit and signaling the control room.

We’ve developed an optional alarm monitor system to notify operators or activate appropriate equipment.

The versatility of the Burst Disc Indicator Alarm System

The BDI Alarm System can be applied across a nearly limitless range of industries and processes – wherever you need instant notification of a ruptured disc.

Use the BDI Alarm System when:

  • Warning of pressure relief is essential for plant safety – i.e., if a burst rupture disc indicates a process malfunction or causes venting of toxic substances
  • A signal is required to initiate an automatic function, process change or shutdown procedure
  • Loss or contamination of product will occur if a rupture disc is not replaced immediately
  • The rupture disc being monitored is difficult to reach or see

The BDI Alarm Strip

The BDI Alarm Strip is the key component of the BDI Alarm System. Installed immediately downstream (on the vent side) of the rupture disc, the strip breaks when its corresponding disc ruptures, breaking the circuit and warning the control room or alarm monitor.


We’ve engineered the BDI Alarm Strip to be:

  • Resistant to chemical attack and corrosion
  • Usable in a wide range of temperatures
  • Easily replaced
  • Compatible with standard design CDC rupture discs
  • ATEX Directive compliant

Please note that the BDI Alarm System is designed for use with Continental Disc rupture discs only. It does not affect the life or performance of the disc.

The BDI Alarm Strip and the MTB 700 Alarm Monitor have been certified for use in “potentially explosive atmospheres” according to the requirements of the European Union, ATEX Directive 2014/34/EC. ATEX type approval and quality assurance notification certificates are available here.
