MANAGER, PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT 1. Where are you from? Mexico City, Mexico 2. How long have you worked at Continental Disc Corporation? Since November of 2007. 3. How did you get into product development? In 2001, I completed a doctorate in Engineering, specializing in the topic of Product Development. Upon finishing my degree, I was offered a position at Siemens in Orlando, Florida to participate in the development of new electric generators for power plants. I spent my first five years at Siemens as a Product Development Engineer and two additional years as team leader. I have also participated in research and development for coca-cola, United Technologies and Lutron Electronics. I moved to Kansas City in 2007 where I came upon the opportunity to work for Continental Disc Corporation as manager responsible for the development of new products. 4. Biggest challenge of product development? Rupture disc technology is both relatively simple and highly mature, thus making the finding of breakthrough solutions with true significant value in a saturated marketplace very challenging. In addition, those involved in the specfication, purchase, installation and maintenance of rupture discs are typically spread among multiple departments and organizations with conflicting opinions and needs. This makes market research and the associated development of successful new rupture disc products more challenging. 5. Best thing about it? The "eureka" moments whenever the team hits upon a good idea for a new product. It is highly rewarding to see these new ideas grow and evolve until the final product reaches the marketplace and contributes to the success of the business. 6. What do you love about working at Continental Disc Corporation? I love the willingness of everybody to do their best and support each other. After two years working at Continental Disc Corporation, I have yet to hear somebody say "that is not my problem". This includes both Continental Disc Corporation associates and our Sales Representatives network. Everybody is excited about new product development opportunities and has participated in the process with great enthusiasm. 7. Tell me about a great customer experience you've had recently. Recently, we developed the SANITRX MP® disc in response to some of our customers' need for a sanitary rupture disc with improved cycling capabilities. We developed this new product line in record time thanks to the great participation of everybody at Continental Disc. We heard that the users of the SANITRX MP disc are now very excited with its performance and that they are achieving great savings by using this new product. 8. What are you doing in your free time? Besides enjoying the company of my wife and newborn son, I spend my free time painting art, writing fiction and poetry, reading, cooking and doing exercise. I am an avid movie goer and you can count on finding me on a Sunday evening at one of the city's local cafes. I also enjoy the great music scene in Kansas City; from classical concerts and opera to late-night Jazz performances.
